The Lemosho Route is a highly regarded trekking option for climbers seeking a more scenic and challenging path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its stunning views and quieter, less-traveled trail, it offers a longer trek (6-8 days), allowing for better acclimatization and a higher summit success rate.
Starting at Lemosho Gate on the western side of the mountain, the route takes climbers through remote, beautiful rainforests, where wildlife such as colobus monkeys and birds can often be spotted. After passing through the forest, trekkers reach the Shira Plateau, where panoramic views of the mountain and surrounding landscapes unfold.
Though Lemosho shares part of its path with the popular Machame Route, it initially offers a more peaceful experience, with fewer climbers in the early stages. As it merges with Machame later, the trail becomes busier, but climbers enjoy a unique combination of solitude and breathtaking scenery.
This route’s longer duration and varied landscapes make it ideal for those who want a quieter and more immersive Kilimanjaro experience, with the added benefit of improved acclimatization and a higher chance of reaching the summit.
