The Machame Route is often regarded as the most scenic and beautiful way to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, making it ideal for adventurous hikers seeking a more challenging climb compared to the Marangu or Rongai routes.
Starting on the southern side of the mountain, the Machame Route approaches the summit from the west. The trek takes 6 to 7 days, depending on the itinerary, and features a mix of steep ascents, rocky paths, and lush forests.
While more physically demanding, the Machame Route is the most popular on the mountain. As a result, climbers can expect more traffic on the trail, but the stunning views and diverse terrain make it a rewarding experience.
You can choose to complete the Machame Route in either 6 or 7 days, with the longer option allowing more time for acclimatization.
