The Marangu Route, also known as the “Tourist Route” or “Coca-Cola Route,” is the shortest and least difficult path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. As the oldest and most frequently used route, it’s chosen by around 70% of climbers due to its easier terrain and the convenience of hut accommodation along the way.
Although it’s considered the “easiest” route, it has a higher failure rate, often due to insufficient preparation. With proper training and acclimatization, climbers can successfully reach the summit.
While not as scenic as other routes, Marangu offers a more comfortable trekking experience, especially in the rainy season, thanks to its sheltering huts. The route can be completed in either 5 or 6 days, with the longer option providing extra time for acclimatization.
